http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shahid-c89347 “BOOM BOOM” Afridi, the axed Pakistani all-rounder, took another dig at the former Chairman of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Ijaz Butt.
The former skipper of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ijaz-Butt-c64128 as an “old man” and opined that the 73-year-old should refrain from playing any further part in Pakistan cricket, as things got from bad to worse during his stint at the helm of PCB.
Afridi, who is currently in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Hong-Kong-c2919 to take part in the Super Sixes tournament, in an interview to AFP, said, “Ijaz Butt was poor during his tenure. If you look at the things that happened in his time it is clear he didn’t do
a good job. I think he needs to have some rest — he is in his seventies — he is an old man.”
Afridi had earlier cited his concerns over Butt’s despicable management as the reason behind his retirement. The presumptuous cricketer said, “I stopped playing because of Ijaz Butt… he has gone, so I am back. I am fit and want
to play. The next time I retire will be the last time.”
The 31-year-old, who led Pakistan to the semi-finals of the 2011 World Cup, retired in May after he was sacked from captaincy. Afridi made his intentions clear that he will not return to the game until Butt is removed from his
position.
The flamboyant cricketer only withdrew his decision, as he has high hopes attached with newly appointed chairman of PCB, Zaka http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ashraf-c46397, who took over after Butt’s tenure came to an end in September, 2011.
The Pakistani heartthrob spoke out in favour of Ashraf, who has immense experience in the banking field. Afridi hopes that the new chairman revamps the structure of cricket in the country.
Expecting Ashraf to amend the damage dealt to Pakistan cricket by his predecessor, Afridi said, “The new chairman is impressive. He has run a lot of companies, so he knows how to manage people and I hope it will be a good change
for Pakistani cricket.”
The 31-year-old is positive of a rebirth in the national team once the Super Sixes tournament comes to an end. Afridi is part of the All Star Team in the event and is accompanied by Sri Lanka’s Sanath Jayasuria and South Africa’s
