There is a strong rumour in the cricketing ranks of the country that Afridi has a great urge to become the captain once again and the all-rounder was furious with the PCB at the appointment of Mohammad Hafeez as the T20 skipper.
In a press conference in Lahore, Afridi has made it clear that he has no such desire of regaining the leadership of Pakistan team, unless or until he is given the responsibility.
Afridi said, “There is no issue of captaincy for Shahid Afridi – it has never been the case. I have never had any ambitions for captaincy but whenever I have been given the opportunity, I have always performed my best.”
The veteran cricketer understands that being an inexperienced leader, Hafeez will require his help during the tour of Sri Lanka and urged every rank of the country to back the opening batsman as captain.
“Hafeez is not only my captain – he is also the captain for the 170million people of Pakistan and as I have said before, it’s not only my job to support him but the supporters and media have to do their job as well as he is the captain of Pakistan," Boom
