While speaking to the Daily Jang here in Karachi on Wednesday, the hard-hitting batsman, who also bowls prolific leg spin, revealed that the decision to drop him was taken by Misbah-ul-Haq, the Test and ODI captain of Pakistan.
"The decision to drop me from the side is taken by the captain (http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Misbah-ul-Haq-c1972)," Afridi told the Daily Jang. "It isn't a big thing if the captain does not want a player but in cricket, being in and out is a one-off thing. It happens and I will soon come back,” added the former Pakistan skipper.
This is the second ODI series of Pakistan in the last six months for which the 33-year-old experienced all-rounder has been dropped, based on poor performance. In December he was dropped for the one-day leg of the tour of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 itinerary because of his leg-spinning skills. Afridi failed to take a single wicket in the ODI series against the Proteas, though he managed to score 126 runs in four innings, with a highest score of 88.
Afridi, a veteran of 354 One Day Internationals, has been struggling for form since the start of 2012, picking up just 15 wickets and 21 ODIs, and averaged 19 with the bat during this period. Asked about his plunging form, Afridi said that he is still better than most and that he still has ample cricket left in him.
"I am still better than most. I know I have ample cricket left in me and I can represent Pakistan for the next few years. Players usually get dropped but I appeal to my fans to pray for me," said the out-of-form veteran.
"I have been training for the England tour. I want to insist once again that I will walk away before being a burden on the side but for a while I understand I have to work hard to come back," he added further.
