Over the last 18 months, the all-rounder has underperformed in international cricket, having taken merely 15 wickets in 21 ODIs since January 2012 at an average of 57.13 runs per scalp. With the bat in hand,
Boom Boom has averaged less than 20 runs per innings in that period.
Consequently, the 33-year-old cricketer was dropped from the ODI squad for the tour of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 but miserably
failed to make an impression with the ball, which resulted in his exclusion from the national squad for the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013.
Afridi vows to make a comeback to the Pakistan team for the tour of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 and revealed that he has been working very hard on his game recently in the National Cricket Academy (NCA).
He said, "I am doing my best and working so hard in the nets at the National Cricket Academy over the past two-three weeks. I have working on many areas of the game and I want to play both [shorter] forms
of the game.”
Boom Boom further added that he has the potential to perform better than many players in the current national team. Afridi claims to be a match-winner and feels that no team can afford to drop players who
have the potential to change the course of a game single-handedly.
"I think I am still better than lots of players; there should be professional jealousy in me. I know how important my performance is as a senior player for the team,” the former Pakistan captain added. “Teams
are carrying their match-winners like http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DA-Warner-c1301 [despite him being suspended]. You can't be in form if you stay out of the team."
The tour of West Indies includes five ODIs and a couple of T20 Internationals. It is highly likely that the former captain will find a place in both the squads.
