http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shahid-Afridi-c2482’s days as Captain are over says a Pakistan Cricket Board
According to some startling revelations made by a source in the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shahid-c89347 Afridi the former one-day and Twenty20 captain will no longer be considered for the job in the future.
Afridi, who is the senior most player in the current Pakistan squad, was removed from his post of limited overs captain after developing estranged relationship with the head coach http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 tour. Nonetheless, the
cricketer will still be considered to play in the team as a player.
Speaking on the matter, a source on the condition of anonymity said, “The board got concerned with reports filtering in during the World Cup that Afridi had started to take his captaincy for granted. Some players have also complained about adjustments they
need to do with two captains instead of one."
According to the PCB official, the decision was in order to reduce the chance of groupism within the team, a problem which Pakistan cricket has experienced in the past.
Justifying the appointment of Test captain http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Misbah-ul-Haq-c1972 as Afridi’s replacement, the source said, “The reason for handing over full captaincy duty to Misbah is simply. He has been in consistent form since last year and has delivered in all formats of the
game.”
The PCB has been unhappy with Afridi’s performance in the recent months where he has struggled with the bat and often made poor decisions on the field. Afridi had also rubbed the PCB the wrong way by retiring from Test cricket as the board clearly wanted
him to lead http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 in all the formats of the game.
With Misbah at the realms, now the Men in Green have the same skipper in all the formats, making it easier for the players to work under the same captain.
It was revealed by the same source that Misbah will remain captain for a few more months while all-rounder opening batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mohammad-Hafeez-c76898 will be groomed as his deputy who will then replace Misbah.
The PCB Chairman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ijaz-Butt-c64128 is said to be pleased with the performance of the opener and received good word from the team management about the cricketer. He is also known to have a good cricketing brain which will help him in becoming an exceptional captain
in the coming days.
After being snubbed by the PCB, Afridi has opted to pull out of the two-match one-day series against Ireland, scheduled to be played on the 27th and 29th of May, 2011.
Meanwhile the PCB has also confirmed the absence of the flamboyant all-rounder from the matches against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mohsin-Hasan-Khan-c77595 has reiterated that Afridi still has three to four years left in him as a cricketer and the Board will
like him to continue as a player in the future.
