Shahid Karim, the legal advisor of Pakistan's teenage pacer Mohammad Amir, has requested the ICC’s anti-corruption tribunal, probing the charges of spot-fixing, to take more time in examining the case before delivering its final verdict
over player’s future in the game.
Whilst the players as well as the followers of the game are waiting for a decision, Amir’s lawyer revealed that he has requested the probe committee for an adjournment.
"We have requested the judges to look at the case carefully and with due consideration before they announce the verdict," Amir’s lawyer told media reporters in Doha. "This is up to them, and if they have looked at it with thought and consideration,
then after we finish they'll tell us if the verdict is announced today or at a later date".
The concluding statements of the six-day long make or break hearing of spot-fixing scandal were given on Tuesday morning in Doha and it is expected that the final decision from the three-member probe panel will come later in the day.
In the six-day long hearing, all the three suspended players – Salman Butt, Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Amir - were cross-examined by the ICC lawyers as well as the legal representatives of the other two players respectively.
Reportedly, Salman Butt - who was captain of the team during the controversy hit Lord’s Test – has been grilled the most by the lawyers of ICC.
Asif’s questioning session was also not an easy one.
Amir, however, had an easy examining session and was only questioned by the ICC lawyers. The 18-year-old was not quizzed by the lawyers of the other two suspended players, Butt and Asif.
Karim has shown satisfaction over the hearing and was quite positive about the decision of the panel.
"I am satisfied that the hearing has been very good and impartial,” said Amir’s legal representative. “I can say from our point of view at least we are hopeful. The onus is now on the judges", he stressed.
Amir, who surfaced as the most charismatic emerging star in international cricket after his remarkable performance in the ICC World T20 Championship 2009, said that he is hopeful about some "good news".
"We are satisfied with how things have gone, and my family's prayers are also with me. I'm feeling good and am hoping for some good news".
