Shahram Changezi believes dehydration constrained him against Asjad Iqbal – Snooker Update
Punjab’s Asjad Iqbal showed great determination throughout the Jubilee Insurance Third National Ranking Snooker Championship 2012 at the Karachi Gymkhana Club Snooker Hall as he lifted the title beating Islamabad’s Shahram Changezi by the score line of 7-2
in the final encounter.
The contest was expected to be a tough game but it did not finish according to the expectations of many snooker fans. Changezi believed that he could not perform well in the game because he was suffering from dehydration.
While speaking to the local media, Changezi said, “I was constrained by the dehydration that I had been suffering since last night. It was not easy for me to put my acts together at the table when it mattered the most. My shot selection left a lot to be
desired. My plans were disturbed by the illness.”
The pair was up against each other in the round robin formatted group matches where Changezi toppled Iqbal with impressive game play. The talented Changezi had a psychological advantage over the youngster before he entered the arena but things started differently
when Iqbal registered the leading position winning the first two frames by the score line of 75-45 and 77-29.
Changezi underwent immense pressure and it seemed that he is all over the table without any clue. Despite the fact that he was out of focus after going 2-0 down, the dazzling potter still had nerves to win the third frame to move one frame up at 2-1. The
Sargodha-based cueman, Iqbal, was in tremendous form and he took advantage of the situation as he claimed four consecutive frames to extend his lead to 5-1.
Shahram tried his best to get back into the game with the seventh frame victory but it was in vain when Iqbal took the eight frame by 54-21. This give a finishing touch to the game and claim his second ranking title victory after the National Bank of Pakistan
(NBP) Second National Ranking Snooker Championship.
Iqbal owed this victory to his parents and his mentor, the former National Snooker Champion, Mohammad Sajjad. With this victory Iqbal was able to retain his National Number one spot as well as pocket Rs.70,000 as winner’s prize.
