Shahriar Nafees pleased with his performance against Pakistan – Cricket News Update
Bangladesh’s batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shahriar-Nafees-c2486 was satisfied with his performance against Pakistan in the second Test of the two match series at the Shere Bangla National Stadium, Mirpur in Bangladesh on Saturday, December 17, 2011.
Despite missing out on a century by just three runs, Nafees was happy that he was able to rescue his side out of trouble alongside team-mate Shakib-Al-Hasan. The pair had put on 180 runs for the fifth wicket partnership before the former was sent back to
the pavilion by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Umar-Gul-c94604.
This partnership was certainly the highlight of the day, as the hosts were struggling at one stage of the innings with four wickets down for 43 runs.
According to Nafees, “It is satisfying to have made the runs against this attack and in such conditions and especially when the team was in trouble. Whoever I've met after the last Test whether it was family members, ex-cricketers, management, journalists,
etc they said that I looked very hurried. I didn't want to do it today.”
Although Nafees was unable to reach a ton, his partner at the other end managed to do that. He played aggressively, especially against the spinners and continued to hurt the opposition throughout day one.
Commenting in Shakib’s performance, Nafees said, “Shakib is very cool when he bats. He can calm things down. He was doing it today, playing spin so well. It became easier at my end. We talked constantly. The best part of the partnership was that we took
a lot of singles, it took off the pressure from us.”
At the end of day one, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747 had reached 234 runs for the loss of five wickets. This was a very good result for the team, especially after they were put into bat on a wicket which had assistance for the seamers.
However, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Abdur-Rehman-c41691 did not get the ball to spin much on day one.
The Bengali batsmen will look to capitalise on a solid first day. If they manage to score more than 400 runs, the Men in Green will be under immense pressure.
