Shahzan to gain a second career success - Lingfieldpark.co.uk Handicap Preview
Thursday’s Lingfieldpark.co.uk Handicap is a very competitive contest, and the likes of Links Drive Lady, Delft and Schoolmaster have really strong cases. But the vote goes to Shahzan, who looked quite impressive when taking a strong third at Kempton last
time.
The 4-year-old kicked off his 2012 campaign on a high, when securing his maiden success at Doncaster. It was a fascinating start to the season, but Roger Varian’s charge lost rhythm thereafter. The son of Dansili faced a few awful losses in May-June.
Owned by H. R. H. Sultan Ahmad Shah, the brown colt started progressing last month. On his penultimate start, the dashing runner grabbed the fifth spot in the field of 11. He built on that, and shared the podium last time.
After a couple of good rides, Shahzan has gained a fair of momentum. He is still unexposed at seven furlongs, and can gain a second career success today. On standard to slow, he is going to face 13 rivals in the class 4 meeting. The £4,075 event is due to
get started at 14:40 GMT.
Following a solid effort at Kempton last time, Good Authority is fully pumped, and could pose a threat over this trip. On the other hand, Majuro, who was not at best on the last three starts, is a risky option.
Advanced isn’t the ideal force for this kind of journey. Wilfred Pickles becomes useful when running at best, but Jo Crowley’s charge is not trustworthy following a three-month break.
Delft is still improving, and has done the trick over this distance here in the past. Mahadee is inconsistent, and not sure to build on the latest second. Wahylah has run well without winning in 2012, and is fully exposed now.
The aforementioned runners are really dangerous, but Links Drive Lady and Schoolmaster look the major threats to Shahzan. The former of the two had a fine spell on turf, and might have even more to offer.
Similarly, Schoolmaster is ready to do better after showing improvement on switching to Polytrack last time. It is going to be a three-way battle among these. Good luck to all.
