the Blues Portuguese defender Jose Bosingwa.
However, the Shakhtar right back seems to have decided to stay on with the Ukrainian outfit, after witnessing and participating in their qualification to the next round of the Champions League. He insisted he was confident his side could take on the top
European clubs and emerge victorious.
Srna said while speaking to reporters, “I think that besides Barcelona and Real Madrid, all the teams are of the same level. We have a very strong team. Even (http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38605 coach) Pep Guardiola, after the game with Arsenal, said he did not want to take on Shakhtar.”
The 28-year-old has been with Shakhtar Donetsk since 2003 and credits the club for his development as a top defender. He also has the honor of wearing the captain’s arm band for the club and made a name for himself when he led his side to the UEFA Cup (now
Europa League) in 2009.
The Croatia international continued, “If I had not developed as a player here I would probably have left the team. But where should I go if I play in a team that two years ago won the UEFA Cup and every year play in the Champions League?”
Srna revealed how he would be tempted by a move away if he felt his side lacked ambition, but that was not the case. After winning the UEFA Cup, Shakhtar Donetsk have managed to qualify for the Champions League the two seasons after that.
For Srna the ability to qualify for the European competition season after season was good enough, he added, “There is a magnificent stadium, there are big ambitions. To date, Shakhtar are one of the best teams in Europe, so it makes no sense to go anywhere.”
Conor Clifford extends stay at Notts County
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Republic-of-Ireland-c2987 and Chelsea midfielder Conor Clifford has extended his stay at Notts County for another month, reports reveal. The 19-year-old Chelsea player was loaned out to Notts County in February will now not be returning to Stamford Bridge until
the end of the season.
This is Clifford’s third season with Chelsea but because of lack of first team opportunities he has been away on loan. He was previously at Plymouth but the deal could not be extended because of the club’s embargo on transfers, which is why Clifford ended
up at Notts County.
The 19-year-old Republic of Ireland under-21 international has made over 21 appearances for his country and led the Chelsea youth side to the FA Youth Cup last season.
