Shakhtar Donetsk striker Eduardo delighted with win over former club Arsenal
Shakhtar Donetsk attacker Eduardo Da Silva (‘Eduardo’) has revealed that he is over the moon with his side’s win over his former club Arsenal in the group stage of the UEFA Champions League.
The sides met at the Donbass Arena on Wednesday, 3 November — two weeks after Arsenal had downed the Ukrainian side 5-1 at the Emirates Stadium.
This time, however, Shakhtar came out on top. Arsenal took the lead after ten minutes through winger Theo Walcott, but first-half strikes by Dmytro Chygrynskiy and Eduardo meant that Shakhtar were able to move alongside Arsenal at the top of the group on nine
points.
Eduardo was delighted that his strike helped his club inch closer to progressing into the knockout stages of the competition.
He told UEFA’s official website that: "The most important thing is that we won; it was a special game for us. It was very hard and Arsenal played well but we got the victory.
'Very hard to come back against team like Arsenal'
"It's very hard to come back when you are losing against a team like Arsenal because they are very strong on the counter-attack. We took a big risk to try and score the equaliser and our timing when we scored the first and second goals was perfect."
The Croatia international added that he believed his side were improving and well-deserving of their place in Europe’s elite tournament for clubs.
He said that: "We have a great team. Our players are technically very good and we have many Brazilians like Jadson, Willian and Luiz Adriano who like to keep the ball on the pitch and play. Shakhtar are a football club definitely moving in the right direction."
Shakhtar’s next match in the competition will be against Partizan Belgrade, who they beat 1-0 in their previous match on 15 September.
