Bangladesh’s premier batsman and former captain, Shakib Al http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 World T20 2012, scheduled to start on Tuesday in Sri
Lanka.
The 25-year-old cricketer is one of the world’s finest all-rounders in the present-day sport and is arguably the best player produced by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747 till date.
Since emerging at the international level in 2006, Shakib has been the mainstay of the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bengal-c771 Tigers, performing exceptionally well with both, bat and ball. Most of the times, he has been asked to bat in the lower-middle order to bring some stability to
the innings. However, during the recently concluded tour of Europe, the former captain was sent at number three.
The cricketer from Magura feels more comfortable batting higher in the order in the game’s shortest format, as it gives him more chance to make an impact on a match.
"If I bat in the top order, I will get more chances to score runs and more chances to face balls. I am looking forward to batting at No. 3," Shakib said.
The all-rounder has so far represented Bangladesh in 26 Tests, 126 One Day Internationals (ODIs) and 22 T20s, having scored more than five thousand runs at the sport’s highest stage. He has further proved his all-round credentials by claiming 280 international
scalps across all three formats of the game.
While talking about Bangladesh’s chances in the mega event, Shakib admitted that his side will have to be at their best to compete against some of the world’s top teams. He feels that the Bengali Tigers have an experienced squad and there is no reason why
they should not be able to win matches consistently.
"There'll be some tough situations but we know how to handle it," the former captain added. "The boys have been playing cricket constantly for a year so they'll understand how to handle the pressure and if we can do this, we'll win the matches."
