http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747 captain Shakib Al Hasan confirmed on Friday that injured seamer, Mashrafe Mortaza has cleared himself to play the three-match one-day series against Australia commencing on Saturday at the Shere Bangla National Stadium
in Mirpur.
"He decided he'll be staying with the team and he'll be part of this series," said Shakib while talking to the media reporters.
The 27-year-old right-arm medium pacer, who missed the recently concluded ICC World Cup 2011 due a knee injury, was a doubtful starter for the limited-overs series due to his fitness issues as well as poor health of his other half.
However, Shakib, on the eve of the opening One Day International between the two outfits, revealed that the seam bowler has been cleared by the physio and is most likely to be part of the playing eleven tomorrow.
Earlier, Mortaza, when asked whether he had been consulted by the team management before selection, had said that it would not be wise to discuss the matter now. He further added that he is honest in his position and does not feel
good to make public what happened prior selection.
"I'm giving 100% in my bowling and it's not as if I was far away from my standard. But it could have been much better if I got at least one more week for preparation. Physio (Michael Henrry) also told me that I need a few more days
for gaining full fitness,” said Mortaza.
The fast bowler revealed he has been out of touch for more than a month due to family problems and agreed that it would be quite difficult for him to get back to his full form and fitness. When asked whether he would be part of playing
elevens in the three-match series, Mortaza said that as a player he wants to play but he has to think about his team also.
The 27-year-old Jessore seamer made his international debut in November 2001 and has so far played 36 Tests and 118 One Day Internationals claiming 78 and 146 wickets apiece.
