Shakib Al http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 – Cricket News Update
Buoyant after annihilating the rampaging West Indies by seven wickets in the one-day series opener, the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shakib-Al-Hasan-c2492, ruled out of the rest of the five-match ODI series due to a shin injury.
The 25-year-old Jessore all-rounder had picked up the injury during Bangladesh’s second innings in the second Test against West Indies at Khulna. Subsequent scans revealed a stress reaction on his right tibia, and was initially ruled out of the first two ODIs of the series.
The experienced left-hander had been replaced by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mominul-Haque-c77642 in the squad for the first two Tests of the limited-overs affair, and was expected to rejoin the squad come the third ODI in Dhaka on Wednesday. However, the stress reaction was reconfirmed by a second scan in Dhaka and the promising all-rounder has been given the next six weeks off to rest.
"Shakib was initially diagnosed with stress reaction on his right tibia, but we needed a second scan just to make sure. It’s been confirmed now," Dr Debashish Chowdhury, the Bangladesh Cricket Board’s chief medical officer, told ESPNcricinfo on Saturday.
"He has been advised not to do any running or jumping during the period. Hopefully, he will fully recover after he sees out four to six weeks. If he were to continue playing with the pain, it would have resulted in a fracture," added the BCB chief medical officer.
Apart from resting, the left-handed middle-order batsman, who also bowls slow left-arm orthodox, will undergo a rehabilitation process. The rehab process will begin only after the shin pain goes away, said Chowdhury.
Another Bangladesh all-rounder, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mashrafe-Mortaza-c1917, admitted that losing Shakib ahead of a crucial series was unfortunate; however, he said that the absence of the Jessore veteran would be a good test for the side.
"It is unfortunate that we have lost Shakib but ... I am taking his absence positively because every player should feel what their role in the team is...Every player has to do his job," said Mortaza.
Bangladesh's next international assignment is the tour of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Zimbabwe-c3045 in March-April.
