Bangladeshi all-rounder http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747 Cricket Board (BCB), after sustaining a knee injury. The inaugural edition of the Sri Lanka Premier League, due to
begin on August 11 this year, features 7 franchises, with 56 foreign players set to participate in the event.
“Shakib has been advised by the national team physio that he has to focus on rehabilitation of the injury in his left knee in the forthcoming period, during which he cannot play matches,” said Rabeed Imam, BCB media manager. “This was also the suggestion
of the BCB, that he gets some rest for now.”
The all-rounder was one among 5 Bangladeshi players set to feature in the upcoming T20 tournament in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/David-Lawson-Miller-c53037
(also US $ 25,000).
Other Bangladeshi players in the tournament include Elias Sunny, Musfiqur Rahim (national team captain), http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Tamim-Iqbal-c2640.
The news of Shakib’s injury is sure to prove a major blow to the Uthura Rudras, who have declined to comment until they receive official confirmation of the news from the BCB.
The left-armer had been tipped as a potential team captain for the franchise. The 25-year-old spin-bowling all-rounder features as the ICC’s top ODI all-rounder, and is also placed at number two on the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625’s Test all-rounders rankings.
Shakib has a career spanning 26 Test matches (with 1630 runs and 96 wickets to his credit), 126 ODIs (3635 runs and 160 wickets), and 94 T20s (1282 runs and 120 scalps). He has also participated in the Indian Premier League, during which he was affiliated
with the Kolkata Knight Riders’ franchise – all of which made him an attractive package for the Rudras.
However, his injured left knee has ruled him out of the upcoming tournament, with the BCB keen to ensure he regains his full fitness prior to the ICC World Twenty20, due to take place in Sri Lanka this September.
