Question:

Shaking in my four year old?

My son woke up at about 12:45 this morning with these shakes. He was not running a fever, was not cold. He said he did not have a night mare so what could this have been caused by? I remember waking up to the bed moving but, I did not pay any attention b/c I thought it was my dog getting into the bed. then he sat up and was just shaking...couldn't stop.

We were up for like MAYBE 15 minutes but, after that he totally seemed fine. Any ideas what could have caused this? Can sugar maybe be a culprit?..but, he would have to have a ton of sugar for something like that to happen right?? It was just really strange. if it happens again I am calling his pediatrician.

Thanks All!!

  1. Hmm. I would talk to your doctor just to be sure. It could have been something to do with sugar. and its important to catch those things because the next episode could be worse..you never know. Talk to you doctor and see if he thinks your son should be looked at. Its a small prick of a the finger to check is sugar and see how its doing. Good luck :) and dont over worry yourself..it could be nothing at all! but its always better to be safe then sorry.

  2. I've woken up before and had been shivering so badly. I was hot and sweaty but shivering.  Maybe it was something like that.....

  3. I wouldn't wait for it to happen again, I'd take him now.  See if the doctor has anything to say about this.  I sure don't know what it could be other than a possible seizure.  But I'm no doctor.  It's not normal though for this to happen.

  4. Hmmm . . . maybe he had a bad dream, but had forgotten it already. If it was sugar-related, it would be more likely related to low blood sugar, but if it was that I'd expect him to still not feel well this morning.

If it does happen again - yes, I'd call his pediatrician and ask about it. It never hurts to get these things checked out.

  5. he may have just had the chills or something..but yea i would call the doc. if it happens again. the safer the better.
