Question:

Shaking off cold symptoms?

by  |  earlier

the last few times I have caught a common cold I have taken weeks to fully shake off the symptoms (congestion of sinuses). Spend weeks blowing my nose.

Is it my immune system struggling to fight off the cold virus or is it just my body not switching off it's effort to fight the cold?

any tips on what I can do or should I speak to the doctor?

  1. Definitely speak to your doc when symptoms persist, you will then get checked out properly and avoid any more serious complications resulting.

Make sure you always eat properly - meat, fish, fresh fruit and vegetables.

Incidentally switching from cows milk on your breakfast serials in the morning to say, oat, soya or rice milk may relieve your sinus problems.  Try it and see.  If you drink large quantities of cows milk it is worth finding an alternative.

    Good luck

  2. Try a decongestant to get rid of the blocked sinuses, and take plenty of vitamin C to assist your immune system.

The funny thing about the common cold is that there are only about 100 different viruses, and once you have had one, you can't catch it again, as you will have developed anti-bodies against that virus.

So, as you get older, the less likely you are to catch colds. Bear with it, and keep comfortable.
