Shaky Philadelphia Eagles host aggressive Baltimore Ravens – NFL Preview
Although Philadelphia Eagles were able to overcome Cleveland Browns in the season opener, they need to improve their performance, especially on offence, as they host Baltimore Ravens in Week 2 game on Sunday, September 16, at Lincoln Financial Field.
The Eagles were pretty miserable against the lowly Browns, and quarterback Michael Vick, who was supposed to provide an impressive performance, struggled badly. Although he was able to provide the game-winning touchdown in the final quarter, Vick never looked
like the player who could lead Eagles to playoffs this year.
Vick, too, seems a bit concerned about the game in which he threw four interceptions. The quarterback hopes to perform better against Ravens. He said:
"The good thing about is that we know the mistakes we made. I know the mistakes that I made and I know they can be corrected. You just have to be patient with this game. You can't become impatient. You can't try to press too hard. You can't try to rush things.
You've got to let it happen."
Ravens have a very sturdy defensive line that played an important role in their last year’s run to the postseason. However, they are coming with an equally strong offensive unit with quarterback Joe Flacco in perfect rhythm, posing more threat to their opponents.
In their first game of the season, Ravens defeated Cincinnati Bengals using all their weapons. The defence did not allow the opposition’s offence to create scoring opportunities, while Ravens offence kept on creating scoring moves to rattle Bengals.
Keeping performance of Vick and Flacco in the season opener in view, the latter certainly carries an edge over the Eagles quarterback, who, despite a shaky start, is well capable of stunning Ravens.
So it cannot be said that it is going to be a one-sided game with Ravens having all the advantage. Ravens will certainly carry an upper hand, but Eagles, who could also qualify for the postseason this year, cannot be underestimated. Moreover, Eagles have
home-field advantage, which will boost their confidence.
Flacco said of the encounter:
“This Philadelphia team, they came off a big win, a tight game. It was a pretty crazy game, and they're going to be at their home opener, and they're going to be ready to go. It should be a lot of fun.”
As far as defence is concerned, Eagles did well to restrict Browns to limited scoring opportunities, but the Ravens offence is seemingly much more capable than Browns and the hosts need to come up with a new plan to secure victory.
There are certain injury problems that might hurt Eagles’ prospects in the game, but if they are still able to improve their flaws from the last game, an exciting encounter is certainly on the cards with a very slight edge to Ravens.
