Shaky start for Milan (Part 1)
The Italian giants, AC Milan opened their European account last night with a 2-0 victory over the hardworking French side, Auxerre at San Siro. It was a very special night for every fan present in that huge stadium full of lights, as they came to see their
new superstars Ibrahimovic and Robinho play in Milan colors.
Fans at San Siro got what they came for, Milan’s new multi million signing, Ibrahimovic, scored for the first time in AC Milan's Red and Black shirt. It was a complete team goal from the World's most formidable attack. Ibrahimovic was assited by another
new talented signing, Robinho. At last it was a win for Rosseneri at San Siro after two years in the European Championship.
The way that Milan won last night is surely the main concern for the most die-hard Milan fan. The two very quick goals from the new super star striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic would have done little to paper over the cracks that are already becoming visible, even
if it is the start of the season.
AC Milan didn’t perform well in the first of their first European night of this season. They were quite simply awful. Overall it was a very bad half from the Rosenerri. They were very lucky to be going in at the break with the scores level. The defence was
not up to the standard which was expected from the seven-time European Champions. Moreover, at one stage, there was a situation when there were four Auxerre players against only two Milan defenders. The almost scored but thanks to one of their strikers, who went
for glory and wasn’t able to place the ball.
Despite the plethora of attacking options, the midfield magic and defence wall will struggle to cut it against the other top level clubs in UEFA Champions League.
There are some aging midfielders in the Milan which are not giving any kind of performance. The legendary Italian World Cup winner, Andrea Pirlo and the talented and experienced in particular will have to give a proper look at their not so impressive performances
last night.
The game play which was expected from the players of this quality was not there. There were numerous moments when the ball was given away cheaply to the French side with some slack passing and attempts at tricks going awry. The complete midfield and the
side backs were the ones guilty of this particular sin. Pirlo and Seedorf have proven some great quality at San Siro over the years and now they really need to start showing it.
Moreover, in attack there were a lot of moments when Zlatan Ibrahimovic attempted a spectacular skill only for it to fail and lost the possession very cheaply to Auxerre. One crucial moment was when he was trying to do this trick and failed, he snapped
at the heels of the Auxerre defender only to foul him. Ibrahimovic was lucky to escape without a booking for his petulance.
However, the Man of the Match, was none other than ‘The Unmistakeable’, Ronaldinho. The veteran legendary forward was all over the pitch. From faint heels to the excellent first touches, it was the Brazilian, who was constantly entertaining Milan fans. It
was a complete performance from the left forward, which is expected from him. Despite his age concerns, there were no such signs from Ronaldinho, he was very energetic and lively on the pitch. Last night he was very aggressive and gave everything to win the
match, which Milan managed to get it. Last night Ronaldinho was the sole part of the both goals scored by Ibrahimovic. The legendary left forward provided one vital assist to Ibrahimovic, which sealed the win for the Rosseneri.
