Shall I do Wing Chun or Kali Escrima ?

I'm thinking of doing martial arts, but I'm not sure which 1 would be better for me. At present I'm thinking of doing Wing Chun because I'm not very strong and it doesn't require a lot of muscular strength. But Escrima also looks good as well.

Which 1 would you choose if you had the choice?

  1. Both are excellent and complement each other but personally I'd choose wing chun :)***

  2. I really don't know, why don't you try both for a week and then decide.  Only you can answer which art is better for you.

See if the schools will give you an extended test drive, the school that refuses has something to hide.  Personally, I'd take the Wing Chun.  As a Krav Maga instructor and tai chi chuan student, I think that skill should not depend entirely on strength, but on smooth flowing execution, and this is coming from a Krav Maga teacher.

Below I have included a couple of links to CMA schools.

  3. I'm personally a fan of Jeet Kune Do. It's more fluid and requires greater flexibility.

Wing Chun and Kali are two completely different forms of martial arts. Obviously, the biggest reason being the usage of weapons in Kali.

If I was you, I would train Wing Chun first until you are comfortable, then begin training in Kali as well.

    Most of all, have fun!

  4. It's interesting that you should mention both of these styles because they are the foundation of the 'trapping range' of fighting in Bruce Lee's Jeet Kun Do. Either of these styles will increase your striking speed and completely fluster an opponent who is unfamiliar with the 'trapping range' of fighting. If you find a Jeet Kun Do school you will actually learn both, but either style is great to learn by itself before you move on to study a different range of fighting to make yourself a more well rounded fighter.
