Question:

Shall I make all of my music 160 Bitrate on my 1GB MP3 player?

I have 186 songs on my 1GB MP3 player, and I have no space left to add any more songs. The overall space is 993 MB, and I have 991 MB of music. However, I want to add more music, so I decided to look at bitrates. Most of my music is high-quality, ranging from 192 to 360. Recently, I have been using the Youtube Downloader to get music from Youtube, and the bitrate is always 160. I was thinking that if I get all my music from there, I will have a lot more space to add more music. I know from my own personal knowledge that 160 is an ok bitrate for music on a portable device, and to be honest there isn't much of a difference to my ears between a 128 bitrate song and a 192 bitrate song or higher. It could just be my rubbish headphones. Can anyone advise me on what to do?

  1. Yeah- a bigger memory would solve the problem.

128 is the absolute minimum you want to listen to music at; lower than that there is a noticeable deterioration. I listen to a lot of stuff at 192- I don't go lower than that as I can tell the difference, but I use pretty good headphones.

160 is perfectly acceptable and, as you say, Youtube and other sites seem to offer that.

Get a new player, though. My Zen is 4G and is endlessly upgradeable because of it's memory slot.

  2. Maybe you should invest in an MP3 with more space. 1GB is a small amount for a guy who sounds like he likes his music.
