Shamiso Hatchard: A promising English female golfer
Shamiso Hatchard is one of the recent golfers who have emerged on the English golf scene with much fanfare.
Hatchard just won the Woburn Ladies Championship and her performance surprised everyone. Although she has been known to the commentators, no one was expecting her to play this good.
She started in a very ordinary manner but soon showed her true colours when she scored a hole-in-one on the third hole. This was just the start of an excellent performance and Hatchard moved on to win the 36- hole event with ease.
What makes Hatchard the rising star of the English female golf?
Experts point out her excellent record with a handicap of just 8. Coupled with that fact is that she is just 15 years old at this point in her career and they see the making of a superstar.
Right now she is in school. She will have considerable exposure to golf when she moves on to university level and competes in top level amateur tournaments.
Hatchard joined the prestigious Woburn Golf Club in 2009. This allowed her to compete in regional events and local tournaments. This was a major step in her golf career and she really shined at the golf. She also took up other sports such as badminton.
Her talent in golf has led her to a scholarship from the Webber Independent School. This scholarship will enable her to pursue her golf career, without worrying about the financial costs attached to it.
Talking about Hatchard and her studies, the principal of the Webber Independent School, Sue Vig said, “Shamiso is an incredibly bright student, dedicated to both her school work and extra-curricular activities, constantly excelling in sport”.
Shamiso Hatchard is a talented player who has won a great deal of support from those around her. The scholarship is just one proof of that support. Her family and teachers have hopes of a great career that lies ahead of Hatchard.
Her principal said, “She is an absolute credit to the school and we look forward to following her exciting future in the world of golf”.
This kind of trust and support is very rare at school level sports. Many players usually have to demonstrate a very high level of competence for a substantial amount of time to be even considered for a scholarship.
For Shamiso Hatchard, the love of golf came from her father. She started playing at the age of eight when her father Professor John Hatchard took her to a golf course. She became enamoured with the game and has not looked back since.
England has a large golf community which, many experts think, is under represented at the international golf events. This problem can be resolved with the continued support and promotion of players like Shamiso Hatchard.
