Shanbally Spark has the winning spark in A3 race at Sunderland
When the six dogs involved in a greyhound race bound out of their traps, it seems as if an electric spark has gone off under them. They sprint down the track, each manoeuvring quickly
to claim a position.
In the A3 race held during an exciting day of 450m races at Tetley’s Sunderland Greyhound Stadium, Shanbally Spark’s (4-1) spark seemed to be the strongest, as he raced to first-place
finish. After an early pace from trap six, he led near the finish line, and completed the race with a time of 28.10 seconds. A shoulder’s length separated first place from second, as Planet Legend raced to a second place finish, matching the winning time of
28.10.
The third and fourth positions were claimed by a pair of 3-1 joint favourites. Vieri Bullseye took third place in 28.22, finishing 1½ lengths behind Planet Legend after crowding first
and third. Sarahs Gone, the other joint favourite, led first to third after some early crowding, but finished just a ½ length out of the top three in 28.26.
Fifth place went to Unknown State (6-1), who crowded first on the way to a 28.48 finish that was 2¾ lengths out of fourth place. Amolee Leo (4-1) brought up the rear by finishing last
in 28.60, 1½ lengths behind Unknown State.
The A4 race that was held later on saw Eden Aker (7-2) lay claim on the top spot. Beginning from trap one, he moved quickly away from the pack, and always led to finish in 28.19. Second
place belonged to Musidora (3-1), who had every chance to win this race. Her finishing time of 28.31 was 1½ lengths behind the winner.
Messan Joe (3-1) didn’t mess around in this race, although he did bump first. However, he recovered quickly to finish third by a neck in 28.33. Lady Winston, the 5-2 favourite, experienced
some early difficulties in the race, as she crowded first and third. She went on to finish in 28.59, which was 3¼ lengths behind Messan Joe.
Follow The Ace (8-1) had to follow the four racers in front of her after crowding first. She would finish the race in 28.63, with only a ½ length lost in the process. Finally, Knockwood
Adam (8-1) claimed sixth place after bumping first. He was 2 lengths out of fifth place with his time of 28.79.
Tetley’s Sunderland Greyhound Stadium will play host to another exciting race meeting on Friday, 22 October. The races are scheduled to begin at 19:30.
