Shane Bond expects seamers to play significant role in World T20 – Cricket News Update
Former New Zealand seamer Shane Bond believes the fast bowlers will play key role in the ongoing ICC World T20 Championship, being played on the traditionally spin friendly Sri Lankan pitches.
During an exclusive interview with ESPNSTAR on Monday, the 37-year-old http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Auckland-c766 pacer said that in T20 conditions do not affect the outcome much, where it just takes a bowler or a batsman to fire and take the game away from the opposition. He, however, tipped the fast bowlers to play decisive role for their teams in the esteemed tournament.
“We always talk of spin and slow pitches here. However, pitches in this tournament so far, including the ones at the Premadasa Stadium, have shown good carry so far,” observed Bond, who is in Colombo these days. “That’s always encouraging for the game. Good carry always provides something for everyone...fast bowlers, spinners and batsmen,” he added further.
The latest edition of the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747 gearing to play the final league match of the tournament tonight at Pallekele. Seven of the eight teams for the Super Eight stage have already been named, while the eighth team will be decided based on the outcome of tonight’s Group D fixture.
Bond, who played 82 ODIs for New Zealand picking up 147 wickets, named Dale Steyn, Adam Milne and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Iftikhar-Ali-Khan-Pataudi-Nawab-of-c64075 Cummins as his favourite fast bowlers playing in the global tournament.
“http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DW-Steyn-c1409...bowls right-out fast and gives nothing away. Adam Milne is one exciting prospect, would love to see him bowl and then Pat Cummins is a lovely bowler to watch.”
The New Zealander, however, had no clear favourites when asked who would lift the coveted trophy this time around.
“The top eight teams are so close that it’s difficult to choose a favourite. I’d definitely back New Zealand to make it to the finals,” an optimistic Bond said.
The World T20 Super Eight stage kicks off on Thursday, with hosts http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 at Pallekele.
