Shane Bond wants accuracy not speed – Cricket News Update
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754’s former fast bowler and present bowling coach, Shane Bond, feels that accuracy is the most important thing to be successful at the highest stage of the game for a fast bowler.
Bond is considered to be one of the finest speedsters produced by the Black Caps as the pacer from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Canterbury-c775 rattled the batsmen all around the world in the previous decade through sheer speed and immaculate lines and lengths.
Having impressed the selectors at the national level, the 37-year-old former player made his international debut in 2001 and went on to play for the Kiwis till 2010. However, the fast bowler had a career full of injuries, which is the
reason why he managed to play just 18 Tests, 82 One Day Internationals and 20 T20s for his country, picking up more than 250 victims at the ultimate level of the sport with brilliant averages and strike-rates.
Bond was appointed as the bowling coach of the New Zealand team last year. The former cricketer is of the view that speed can help a bowler to dismantle the batsmen but said that accuracy is a prerequisite, which is the reason why Glenn
McGrath, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Vernon-Philander-c2753 have been very successful in international cricket.
The Kiwi bowling coach said, “Someone like Philander - and (now banned Pakistani) Mohammad Asif and (retired Australian) http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Glenn-Donald-McGrath-c60183 are the same - show you don't have to be 90mph to be effective at this level.”
Bond further added that batsmen of the highest quality are not fazed by speed and the only way to trouble them is to bowl consistently in the good areas.
“It doesn't matter how fast you bowl. You need to be consistent, and that's one thing I've tried to get into our guys every time we train,” the former cricketer added. “Be more consistent, more accurate because at the end of the day that's what causes more
problems for the top players.”
New Zealand’s upcoming Test series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 is going to be a huge test of Bond’s coaching skills as the home team possesses some of the world’s best batsmen.
