Shane Doan gives Phoenix Coyotes more time pushing deadline to July 16 -NHL Update
Showing that he still has a soft corner for Phoenix Coyotes, captain Shane Doan pushed back his deadline to allow his original team an extension till July 16, 2012, before he starts taking into consideration options available to him on the table.
For Shane Doan, ownership issues have been the reason that he has not re-signed with Phoenix Coyotes as of yet and for him, just a simple confirmation about when the Jamison group will overtake the team would be enough for the veteran to keep him put.
"Unlike the majority of athletes, he takes responsibility for this organization," Doan’s agent, Terry Bross, said. "Don't think it's lost on him that it's going to have an impact in more ways than on the ice if he leaves. That's why we're dragging our feet
on this."
"I would say if we don't have an answer by the 16th it may be time to get serious about listening to other teams' offers,"  Bross, told Fox Sports Arizona.
Jamison is learned to have put forth a $324 million lease on the team and Jobing.com Arena for the next 20 years, a resolution which was passed by the local Glendale city Council earlier, but was taken up in court by an opposing group.
Two residents of Glendale, Ken Jones and Joe Cobb are leading the movement against the former San Jose Sharks executive and are opting towards forcing the situation to go into a referendum instead of a clear cut sale.
Both residents need to get enough signatures on their petition before they can file anything serious, and if done, the ownership bid made by the Jamison group could be put on hold yet again.
Shane Doan was drafted by the Winnipeg Jets as the seventh overall player back in 1995 National Hockey League (NHL) Entry Draft. He has spent all but one season of his career with Phoenix Coyotes and holds 1,198 games played for 788 points (318 goals, 470
assists).
It is quite clear that he does not want to leave Phoenix, but only time will tell how the situation plays out and for his original team, this may well mean a disastorous season without their leading man to guide the squad.
