Shane Doan in talks with Phoenix Coyotes and potential buyer Greg Jamison -NHL Update
In what seems to be a positive step in holding Shane Doan back on the squad and saving Phoenix Coyotes from a potential disaster for the upcoming National Hockey League (NHL) regular season, the captain and possible buyer Greg Jamison held talks on Saturday.
The two met in Phoenix in order to discuss the future situation of Phoenix and where Doan could see himself playing next season while Jamison is obviously believed to persuade the captain in staying.
Doan has spent over 15 seasons with the Phoenix Coyotes already and moving away now would only break his records with the team. This past season was witness to Doan’s greatness and ever improving leadership as he took Phoenix to their first Pacific Conference
title along with Western Conference Finals appearance.
In previous interviews, Doan sounded like he definitely wants to stay in Phoenix but might have to choose going elsewhere if the ownership situation with the Coyotes does not clear up soon.
"Teams have been great about being patient with me, and I appreciate it so much because I know the fluidity of the market and the way that it moves," Doan said. "The teams have been so kind to my family and understanding the situation we're in. That being
said, eventually I have to make a decision, and it'll have to probably be without all the information."
Last season, the veteran forward put up 50 points (22 goals, 28 assists) in 79 games, proving that he is still as quality of a player like he was when he first stepped on the ice.
Doan is not looking for money or fame; he is just looking for certainty about the team he will be playing with.
"When it comes down to it, I’ll really make my decision. I don’t want to put anybody in a situation where you feel like, you know, if you impress me, I’ll come," Doan added. "Until I make my decision, I don’t want to force anyone’s hand."
For now, there is no surety about the 35-year-old captain returning on Phoenix’s roster next season but updates can be expected in the upcoming days.
