Shane Doan to reach agreement with mystery team before CBA expires says Agent -NHL Update
Where veteran forward Shane Doan might be headed for the upcoming 2012-2013 National Hockey League (NHL) regular season is still a mystery, but a deadline has been set according to his agent, Terry Bross, as September 15, 2012, the day the current collective
bargaining agreement is set to come to an end.
The main factor is setting that date as the deadline has been shown by Doan’s agent as to be due to whether a lockout will pursue or what the terms and conditions of a new deal could be and their effect on contracts post a new labour deal.
"[It has to] be done before the 15th, otherwise we're signing somewhere because we don't know what the new CBA is going to look like and I don't know if it's going to limit any scope of a contract," Bross told the Arizona Republic. "We want to make sure
we sign before then. I guess in that respect, time is ticking."
There are 16 teams reportedly going after the Phoenix Coyotes captain, but there is no certainty to which he is looking forward to be playing with. Obviously, Phoenix is the place where Doan would like to stay the most but if ownership issues continue to
hold him out, another team it will have to be.
"Shane is going to sign a contract before the CBA expires on the 15th," Bross added. "(Ownership has to) be done before the 15th, otherwise we're signing somewhere because we don't know what the new CBA is going to look like.”
Vancouver Canucks are suggested to be one of the highest paying teams for the veteran at the moment as some reports have predicted their offer for Doan to be as high as what the Sedin twins are making, $6.1 million in annual salary cap space. It will most
probably not be higher than that but could be lower.
There are no confirmations of other offers as of yet either, but as the days countdown to the expiration date of the CBA, there is no telling which team will get a major boost in offensive power.
