West Brom striker Shane Long scored twice for the Baggies in the 2-4 victory against Yeovil Town in the Capital One Cup and is now targeting a win against Everton in the Premier League.
The Irish international netted twice in the game last night after he had asked manager Steve Clarke for a start ahead of West Brom’s other strikers. The player is surely targeting an improvement upon last season’s goal tally as he scored two phenomenal goals
against the League One leaders.
Long had also started the game against Tottenham this past weekend and was instrumental in the team’s last minute equalizer. The player looks to be in the perfect form and is now targeting a win against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Everton-c13019 this coming week.
Long was chosen ahead of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Romelu-Lukaku-c31672 and Markus Rosenberg for the opening two games of the Premier League season, and showed manager Steve Clarke just why he should start ahead of both strikers.
“I wanted to play. I’m used to playing Saturday-Tuesday from my time at Reading and the more games I play, the better I feel on the pitch and the more chances I have to score goals."
“That will build my confidence and I can go into Saturday on a high. There is strong competition for the strikers and, with the way we play, there is only really one place up front.”
“When you do get your chance to start up front you know you’ve got to take it because there is quality on the bench and players waiting to take your place.”
The striker was indeed in lethal form as he grabbed a brace against the League One opposition. The game had started with West Brom falling behind after former Baggies player Reuben Reid scored twice for Yeovil.
West Brom quickly got back into the game as Long scored from a header and then a goal from captain http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chris-c9006 Brunt came before Long grabbed another goal just before half time.
The fourth West Brom goal came courtesy of season long signing Yassine El-Ghanassy, who made his first appearance for the club last night.
Manager Steve Clarke was delighted with the result, and has backed his team to win the League Cup this season.
