Shane Lowry settles for 6th at the Sicilian Open
After scoring a 74 in the third round, Shane Lowry finished tied for the sixth position at the European’s Tour Sicilian Open.
The 25-year-old Irish professional golf player's performance was a little inconsistent at the Verdura Golf and Spa Resort in Sicily, Italy.
He started the tournament on Thursday and scored a 5-under 67. He played tremendous and competed well against the rivals after scoring five birdies, an eagle and two bogeys.
Last time he scored a 67 in the final round of the Open de Andalucía Costa del Sol, and now he has displayed his best score of the year again.
In the second round, Lowry shot four birdies and two bogeys. He finished at a 2-under 70 on Friday. After amazing scores in the two rounds, he was unable to impress the spectators on the third day.
On Saturday, he lost all his focus, as he carded five unimpressive bogeys and only three birdies.
He ended the day by scoring a 2-over par. Such a devastating performance affected his leaderboard position.
However, he utilised all his efforts to improve his scores. In the final round, he recovered and played a massive game.
He made seven birdies, from the 2nd hole to the 13th. He was climbing the leaderboard position rapidly, but made two bogeys on the 17th and 18th hole.
At the end of the day, he added a 5-under 67 and finished tied for the sixth position. He competed well for the lead. However, his inconsistency throughout the four days took him to the sixth position.
Thorbjorn Olesen won his debut title of the European Tour impressively. He scored a 15-under 273 at the Sicilian Open. He made 20 birdies and an eagle.
Olesen was five strokes ahead of Lowry.
The winner faced a tough resistance from Lowry and the runner-up Chris Wood. All the three players played an amazing game and cheered the spectators.
Wood scored a 14-under 274 and played well in the final round. He scored seven birdies, an eagle and only one bogey on Sunday.
Lowry and Wood were quite close to the leading position on Sunday, but Olesen won due to the consistent scores he made throughout the four days.
