Shane McPhilbin defends his newly acquired gold against veteran Enzo Maccarinelli – Boxing news
Shane McPhilbin, the current British Boxing Board of Control (BBBC) cruiserweight champion, will defend his newly acquired gold against Enzo Maccarinelli, the former World Boxing Organisation cruiserweight champion, in a 12-round bout on Friday, March 23,
2012.
The Friday night show is a joint venture of P. J. Rowson of First Team Promotions and Frank Warren. The ring for the event will be stretched at Civic Hall situated in Wolverhampton, West Midlands, United Kingdom and the pay-per-view will be co-headlined
by the 10-round championship bout between Jason Welborn and James Flinn.
Shane, 26, is a young surging pugilist who caught media’s due attention in his bout last bout against Leon Williams. It was this 12-round skirmish in which Shane became the BBBC cruiserweight champion and collected a surprising win via technical knockout
in the last round.
Shane has been in a total 10 bouts and came out victorious in eight. He has collected five of his wins by knockout and is seriously overshadowed by Enzo, the Big Mac, in experience and other facets.
Enzo has been in a total 39 bouts and came out victorious in 34. He has collected a huge 27 wins by knocking the opponent out and is truly known as one of the best pounder in the division.
The former World cruiserweight champion, Enzo is currently on a two-bout authoritative win streak. The 31-year-old former champion lost his EBU (European) cruiserweight gold to Alexander Frenkel and after that loss, has knocked Gyorgi Marosi and Ciaran Healy
easily and swiftly within just two rounds.
In a recent interview the veteran pugilist shared his thoughts about the upcoming engagement and said, “The main reason I took the fight against McPhilbin is because I want the British title. My father always wanted me to win it and I promised him I would
one day, but it’s such a shame that he won’t be here to see it and enjoy it with me now.”
Enzo commented that he has beaten two British boxers before and has fought many others as well but has never contended for the British cruiserweight gold adding that the feeling and charm of being a world champion was definitely worth every punch or jab
he took but fulfilling the wish of his late father will make him happier and more satisfied.
Enzo while praising and discussing the upper hand he has over Shane said, “Of course, I respect him, he’s a fighter and he’ll be looking to keep hold of his title, but he hasn’t boxed at my level before and I aim to take it from him. I’ve had two good knockout
wins back-to-back and I’m ready for McPhilbin and whatever he brings to the table.”
Shane needs to work hard since he is seriously outclassed by Enzo’s experience, knockout ability, height, reach and last but not the least footwork.
