Shane Mosley talks Manny Pacquiao, free agency
"Sugar" Shane Mosley thinks he’ll be next to get a crack at Manny Pacquiao.
Mosley recently chatted with boxingscene.com, and discussed the possibility of a super fight with Pacquiao, as well as his promotional status with Golden Boy Promotions, following speculation that his contract had concluded.
Top Rank Promotions, who promote Pacquiao, indicated that Mosley would be a top option as a prospective opponent should a third round of negotiations with undefeated Floyd Mayweather Jr. fall through.
Despite coming off an unspectacular Pay-Per-View bout with Sergio Mora, Mosley believes that, at 39, he still has enough in the tank to take out the phenomenal "Pacman".
"I'm pretty heavy-handed. I'm not sure if Manny will be able to run with all of those punches he throws. I would definitely cause a lot of problems for him. I'm tall, I have long arms. I have good power. He's very hittable and that's what makes it such a
great fight," Mosley pled.
"He's got a lot of speed and power, and I have a lot of speed and power as well. So, you have two guys clashing who want to fight, and it's going to be an excellent fight."
Insofar as Mosley’s promotional situation goes, he confirmed that he has been a"“promotional free agent for two years." Mosley also owns stock in Golden Boy, as opposed to them owning stock in him.
Should a Pacquiao fight find its way on the horizon, Mosley was clear to indicate that he would fight under his own promotional banner, as oppose to under Golden Boy’s. This would be a significant change for him, as Golden Boy has backed him in recent fights
against Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Sergio Mora.
Mosley suggested one of the reasons for self-promoting was due to the dispute between Golden Boy and Top Rank, which has halted negotiations and fight possibilities between the stables. Therefore, as a free agent, he is free to make fights with Top Rank
boxers.
"I'm not signing with Top Rank. I just want to fight a couple of the fighters there. I still have stock in Golden Boy...There are fighters at Top Rank that I want to fight and I have to go that route [without Golden Boy involved] to fight them. If Golden
Boy can't make the fights, then I have to step outside of the box as my own promoter and do it."
