The 25-year-old is now targeting the coming edition of the race. He is optimistic to repeat his previous performance to make it his second consecutive win at the event.
Perkins started his cycling endeavors back in 1999, and was accompanied by his father, a former cyclist.
His professional debut was marked in 2007, with Team Jayco-Australia. The Australian claimed the 3rd overall spot during the 2007 World Cup in Los Angeles.
His other admirable performances include a first place finish at the 2007 Manchester World Cup and a first place finish at the Melbourne World Cup 2008.
The cyclist reached the peak of his career in 2009 and secured as many as seven first place finishes in the season.
While commenting on the coming edition of the World Championships, he told Cyclingnews, "There is a fair bit of expectation from people, you know, if you've won it before you can definitely do it again type of thing – that's definitely a truth".
"But I'm not really feeling any pressure. I'm just worrying about what I've got to do. I'll go out there and run my race and if it's good enough to win, then it's good enough to win".
"I can't be disappointed if I've left everything out on the track and done everything I possibly can in the lead up to get the best performance, which I have done," he concluded.
The 2012 version of the Track World Championships are scheduled in Australia and Shane will definitely have the home turf advantage at the event.
He also noted that 2012 Olympic Games will be his next big goal of the season and he will fine-tune his form ahead of the London’s event.
