Shane Shillingford’s bowling action under scrutiny again
Shane Shillingford, the West Indies off-spin bowler has been reported to the International Cricket Council (ICC) for a suspected illegal bowling action following his performance in the drawn first Test of the three-match series against
Sri Lanka in Galle. The spinner would have to undergo a test testing within three weeks (21 days).
The twenty-seven years old West Indies player- who made his Test cricket debut against South Africa in Port of Spain in June this year- must now undergo tests to analyse his bowling action within 21 days.
The analysis must be conducted by a member of the International Cricket Council panel of human movement specialists. If the bowling action of Shillingford is found illegal during the analysis, he will be suspended from bowling in international
cricket until he can demonstrate the necessary adjustments to his suspected bowling action.
The Dominican right-arm off-break bowler, who finished with remarkable figures of 4 for 123 in the first innings of Sri Lanka, was reported for suspected illegal bowling action by the whole panel of umpires for the match including on-field
umpires Richard Kettlebrough and Steve Davis, as well as Asad Rauf, the TV umpire and the fourth umpire Tyron Wijewardene. The panel showed concerns over the straightening of West Indian off-spinner’s arm while he bowled some deliveries.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shane-Shillingford-c89689 appeared on the domestic scene of West Indies Cricket in 2000-01, but despite his notable first-class performances, he struggled for a place in the Test side.
After several years of hard work, he finally got a call up in the A team of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747 earlier this year. His bowling action was suspected during A-team assignments as well but he overcame the problems and finally
earned his maiden Test call the same year, for the home Test series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757.
Until the West Indies Cricket Board receives a report of the assessment, Shillingford can continue bowling in international cricket so the off-spinner will be available for the next two Test matches against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758.
The second Test begins on November 23 at R. Premadasa Stadium Colombo while the third and the last five-dayer will be hosted by Pallekele International Cricket Stadium.
