Shane Victorino decisive homer helps Philadelphia Phillies rout Colorado Rockies 4-3 - MLB Update
Philadelphia Phillies’ centre-fielder, Shane Victorino had a remarkable day with the bat as he went 2-for-5 but hit a decisive home-run in the 10th inning to give the Phillies a 4-3 victory over the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field, Colorado on
August 1.
Chase Utley had a walk but at the left-field, Ryan Howard flied out as Victorino grounded out and Jimmy Rollins grounded out to pitcher. Similarly, the Rockies also seemed powerless at the bottom of the first inning as Eric Young Jr. grounded out towards
third base, Dexter Fowler struck-out swinging and Mark Ellis popped out to first base.
Rockies led off with 2-0 during the second inning. Seth Smith struck a two-run homer (429 feet) towards centre-field while Ty Wigginton scored a single run for the Rockies. From third to sixth inning of the game, the batters got out without taking any run.
Wigginton singled to left-field in the fourth inning but at the short-stop position, Troy Tulowitzki grounded out and Ellis also grounded out to third base.
During the sixth inning, Phillies were score-less and missed the scoring opportunities as Victorino popped out to second base, Utley grounded out to first base, at centre-field Ryan Howard flied out. At the top of the seventh inning, Hunter Pence posted
a single run when Raul Ibanez doubled to deep centre-field to reduce their lead.
Victorino said, “I was able to lay off the sliders and got a pitch to hit. They were all excited and it's always nice to see your parents happy.”
Rockies also contributed one run to advance their lead 3-1, at the bottom of the seventh inning. Chris Iannetta homered (435 feet) towards left-centre. Cole Hamels gave up two runs on six hits and threw his six inning pitches with an ERA of 2.62. He permitted
only one walk and two earned runs with one home-run. On his 86 pitches, Hamels had five strike-outs.
Ninth inning went in favour of the Phillies as they blasted two runs to level the game 3-3. John Mayberry Jr. hit a two-run homer (406 feet) to left-field and Carlos Ruiz contributed a tie run for the Phillies. Victorino homered (401 feet) towards left-field
to take a 4-3 lead in the additional 10th inning.
Phillies got a 1-0 lead against the Rockies in the three-game series played at Colorado.
