Newly signed by Melbourne Renegades, former Sri Lankan spin legend, Muttiah Muralitharan, is all set to face his old counterpart, Shane Warne (playing for Melbourne Stars) in the season opener of Australia’s domestic Big Bash league, on Friday.
During the Indian Premier League, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Brad-Hodge-c1184, convinced the veteran Sri Lankan to join the Renegades for the upcoming BBL. Mcdonald, being the captain of Renegades last season, joined Adelaide Strikers this year and was forced out of
the tournament after sustaining a hamstring injury.
Brad Hodge however, will be taking part in the BBL’s kick-off encounter but will side with the Melbourne Stars after being the star batsmen for Renegades in the previous edition.
“When I was playing for Royal Challengers, Hodge and McDonald convinced me to come and play. At the time they were in the Renegades and unfortunately now they're not. Still, we have a good side. Thanks to them, I am here,” shared Muralitharan on Thursday
in Melbourne.
Hodge will face Murali in an action packed encounter. Nonetheless, this will not be the only clash that the fans will witness. The Australian spin legend, Warne, will also feature in the game to continue his rivalry against the off spinner which started
in the international Test cricketing arena.
Having 708 wickets under his belt in Tests, Warne will captain the Stars this season. The last face-off between the two teams took place in January this year, where Stars came out victorious by 11 runs (D/L method).
“His art is very difficult. Legspin, I have tried when I was young, and it was very hard to do. If you can land the ball like him, it's very hard. Once in a hundred years you get a bowler like him. I have a lot of respect for him and in our playing days
as well,” shared Muralitharan.
In addition to Murali, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/SL-Malinga-c2540 will also appear in the opening game, but for the opposing team. The third Sri Lankan to take part in the BBL this year is Thisara Perera. He was picked up by Brisbane Heat following Cape Cobras’ objection over Proteas
pacer http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Dale-c52110 Steyn’s participation.
