Former Australian leg-spinner Shane Warne has expressed his confidence in the Australian team’s current line-up for their ODI tour of England, insisting that they have what it takes to make a considerable dent in England’s confidence prior to the 2012/2013 Ashes series.
“I believe this Australian team will give England something to think about before the Ashes next summer in England,” Warne wrote recently in the Telegraph.
The upcoming 5 ODIs mark the first bilateral series the two teams will be playing following the 2010/2011 Ashes, which culminated in an embarrassing defeat for the Aussies on home ground.
However, this time around, Warne is convinced Australia have managed to perfect their line-up, and singled out the quality players he felt will play key roles in the upcoming matches.
Praising the new bowling attack for possessing “imagination, variety and flair”, Warne went on to express particular interest in the young duo of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/James-Pattinson-c1653 (22 years-old) and Pat Cummins (19-years-old), both of whom have been included in the squad after making impressive international debuts last year.
“James Pattinson and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/BW-Hilfenhaus-c1204 was another bowler to watch out for, after having made significant improvements since the previous Ashes series.
In addition to the bowling attack, Warne also appreciated the strength of the batting order, praising the opening duo of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Adam-Gilchrist-c918.
“The batting is strong, starting with the aggressive David Warner and Shane Watson at the top. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Clarke-c51120 at four and David Hussey, who is a proven super limited-overs batsman, at five,” he wrote. “Matthew Wade, the new keeper, is like Adam Gilchrist. He whacks it.”
With the Aussies having recently played a tour match against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Essex-c783, which culminated in a comprehensive 179-run victory, the tourists look to be in excellent shape for the first ODI against the Poms, scheduled to take place at Lord’s in London on June 29,
