Australia’s former spin maestro, Shane Warne, believes that his ex team-mate, Darren Lehman, would be a fine find as the national team’s Coach, or even as an important official on Cricket Australia’s (CA) selection panel.
Warne, who is set to feature in an upcoming Australian domestic Twenty20 (T20) competition, said that he was quite impressed with Lehmann’s traditional approach towards the game, and will be beneficial for the Kangaroos, in either of the two posts.
“I think Darren Lehmann is absolutely outstanding - as a coach or in some senior role involved in the team or as a selector,” Warne told reporters.
“I think he’s got a really good understanding of the young guys, he’s got a great understanding of old school and what’s required to perform,” the former spinner added.
CA’s hunt for the national team’s Coach came up after the former mentor, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Timothy-John-Nielsen-c94043, opted to step down from the designation, especially since the Board went through a thorough overhauling followed the recent Argus Review – which was conducted in a bid
to revive the Australian cricket fraternity after the national team’s disappointing seasons since the last, defeated Ashes series.
Although Nielsen’s omission was based on his own decision, but for some of the other senior officials on CA, the results of the Review led to many forced omissions at the top hierarchy, and especially on the selection panel.
For now, CA has already launched a global search for Nielsen’s suitable replacement, but for Warne, the Aussie veteran feels that the team now needs http://www.senore.com/Cricket/A-Mentor-c41238 with an ‘old-school’ approach, rather than someone with a mindset of a contemporary instructor.
Warne did comprehend that the modern-day sports do require all the glitter and glamour, but at the same time, players should be made to focus on the traditional practices of the game as well.
“I just think you need someone with old-school thoughts - a bit of hard work, a bit of the new stuff and mix and match,” opined Warne.
For the matter, Warne feels that Lehmann will surely fit in for the post, and if not him, someone with his vision and qualities would be the right pick as Australia’s next Head Coach.
