Australian legend, Shane Warne, has lashed out at Kevin Pietersen and England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) over their failure to deal with the ongoing text messages row, which has led to the bad-press of English cricket.
Terming Pietersen’s action as ‘silly and stupid’, the former spin wizard said that the former England captain regrets his actions but on the other hand, blamed the ECB for their stubborn approach on an issue which could have been resolved amicably.
“Kevin will be one of the first people to admit that he's acted in a way that's been a bit silly and stupid,' Warne said. 'I'm sure he'd like to take back a few of his actions. There's a bit too much ego at the ECB (http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 and Wales Cricket Board). There's no give or take or compromise.”
After scoring a brilliant century at Headingley, the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Surrey-c851 batsman was found to be embroiled in another controversy where he sent text messages to unknown South African players, in which he criticised the team management.  He had also talked about his uncertainty to play in the third and decisive Test in a press conference.
ECB came hard on the star batsman and subsequently dropped him after he failed to clarify his position over the text messages. England suffered a 51-run defeat at Lord’s and lost the series 2-0.
The governing body later excluded the Surrey batsman from the final squads for the upcoming NatWest ODI series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 World T20 Championship, where England will be defending its title.
Warne however, feels that both sides have each other to blame, while further terming the decision to sideline a talent like Pietersen as tragic. The right-handed batsman has already announced to come out of ODI retirement and has apologized for his actions.
“Both sides are at fault - the bottom line is http://www.senore.com/Cricket/KP-Pietersen-c1806 is not playing international cricket, which is a tragedy. If he doesn't sign his England contract, if he doesn't play for England again, I just think that's a tragedy,' Warne added,” the former Australian vice captain added.
