Shane Warne rules out coaching stint as he hangs his Indian Premier League boots
Australian legend Shane Warne, who played his last match for his Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise, the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Rajasthan-c837 Royals, has stated that he has no intentions of coaching a team in the tournament in the years to come. The 41-year-old
played 56 matches in four seasons for Royals, claiming 58 wickets at an average of 25 runs per wicket.
He had announced earlier in the month that the ongoing season was set to be his last and duly played the last match for his team against the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mumbai-c820 Indians last night. The Royals thumped the hosts by 10 wickets with Warne taking 1
wicket in his final spell in the cash rich league.
At the end of the match, he announced that he had no intentions of taking up a full time coaching role as he would rather play than sit in the dug out for the seven week duration of the tournament.
However, the legendary test spinner with more than 700 wickets to his name, indicated that a consultancy role for a shorter stint might be the way to go for him, he also added that he would want to stay attached to Royals.
"I can see myself in a consultancy role," he said. "Whether it be for 10 days pre-tournament, maybe a week in the middle and a week at the end, maybe a few days, maybe just at the end. Obviously Rajasthan are my first priority but
if I can't come to an agreement with them then I'll look elsewhere."
Warne had a tricky period leading up to his final game, he was fined a hefty $50,000 for his spat with the secretary of Rajasthan State Cricket Association. The controversy dented his image at his franchise also, yet Warne had little
regrets over the decision of the Board of Control for Cricket in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 (BCCI), that slapped the fine on him.
He had stated that he lets ‘bygones be bygones’ and was not overly perturbed about the incident. Warne also revealed he apologized to the Secretary immediately after a match where he had approached him to explain his choice of wickets
for two of Royals home games.
Speaking to the media, he emphasized that he had a tremendous relationship with his franchise and despite the latest controversy he was keen on making a return for them.
On the other hand, he also indicated that if given an opportunity, he would like to take up the consultancy role with some other franchise also.
"I have had four years with them so they might think its time for a new injection from someone else with some different ideas … they might still want me, I'm not sure. In the next 12 months I might be associated with somebody else".
He concluded.
