Shane Warne's tips to Andrew Strauss
for Ashes
Australian spin legend, Shane Warne has described Kevin Pietersen and Graeme Swann as key to England's success in the upcoming Ashes series, while at the same time giving Andrew Strauss some tips regarding usage of his dynamic guns.
"If England are to be successful, then two men have to perform. The first is Kevin Pietersen. He is the best match-winner in world cricket and can turn the course of the game in a session”, said Warne.
The Australian leg-spin prodigy does not agree with John Buchanan's view that Kevin is "individualist and fragmentary". He said that he had worked with the prolific English batsman and seen him operate. “He is forensic in the way he prepares
both physically and mentally so just let him go. The more you cage him and encroach on his preparation time then the less he will perform for you", he added.
Warne feels that KP could really hurt Australia if his team gave him room to breathe. He further added that if the leadership of England team wants to grab the best out of the veteran, it should make him feel ‘super-important’. The Australian
leg-spinner termed him a match winner for England with a potential of scoring more than 500 runs, if given a free reign.
The legendary spinner has given a long list of tips to Andrew Strauss and his men for the next month’s Ashes. He stated that the visitors would have to be ruthless avoiding the war of words if they are to win the Ashes in Australia. Besides
suggesting Strauss to employ Swann earlier into attack, he has asked the English pacers to rely more on full length deliveries than short-pitched stuff.
“If I was Andrew Strauss I would give him a go early. Don't wait for all the seamers to bowl and then bring on Swann. Let the opposition know he is the trump card, so once the swing starts to wear off after 10 overs he should be first change,"
he said.
The former Australian leg-spinner advised England to not underestimate Ponting’s side because of their recent poor performances.
"It will be very difficult for England to win in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746. It has not happened for such a long time and people forget they are coming off the back of a 5-0 embarrassment here four years ago."
The Ashes gets underway in Brisbane from 25th of November.
