Australia’s star all-rounder Shane Watson will feature in the three match One Day International (ODI) series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757, starting from Wednesday, October 19, 2011.
Watson failed to represent his side in the second Twenty20 of the two match series in Johannesburg. According to reports, he suffered a hip injury. However, it was not a big concern and the player was rested due to precautionary measures.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746’s Twenty20 skipper Cameron White mentioned, “Look he wasn't flash yesterday ... there's an important one-day series coming up and obviously the Tests and he's a massive part of that ... so if there's any doubt you probably just don't play those
guys.”
The Kangaroos suffered a defeat in the second Twenty20 of the series, which was leveled in the end at 1-1. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Watson-c96326 played a vital role in his side’s success in the opening game, scoring a quick fire half-century.
The star all-rounder has become an integral part of the national team in all three formats of the game. He first came onto the international scene as a bowling all-rounder, but has now become a proper batsman.
The 30-year-old opens the innings in every format of the game and is considered as one of the most lethal cricketers in modern day cricket.
Australia have been struggling to perform consistently in Twenty20 cricket due to the fact that many senior players have quit playing the shortest version of the game.
However, Watson is one of those players in the side who represents the team in every format of the game. His batting as an opener in Test cricket has been criticised lately, but there is no doubt in his potential as a top-order player in the shorter version
of the game.
The Aussie player has been unable to capitalise on his starts in the longest version of the game, which makes his position questionable. However, he will still be a handy batsman to have in the lower-order if the struggle continues at the top of the order.
At the moment though, Watson’s focus will be on the 50-over cricket before heading into the Test match series against South Africa.
