The stand-in Australia captain, Shane Watson, is all-set to lead the side in the five-match ODI series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MJ-Clarke-c1978, who has been ruled out of the tour with a recurring hamstring injury.
This would be Watson’s first overseas tour as the Aussie captain and he is hopeful that his side will take the momentum from the recently concluded Commonwealth Bank series into the Caribbean itinerary.
"Hopefully, we can produce some very good cricket for the fans over here," said Watson, speaking to media reporters after Australia’s One-Day and T20 squad arrived in St Vincent on Sunday, for a six-week tour of the West Indies.
"We have just come off a very big series in Australia and hopefully we can continue the form that we showed and bring it in the games against West Indies," the Australian all-rounder added further.
The Kangaroos are scheduled to play five One Day Internationals, two T20 Internationals and three Tests against the Windies during a month and a half tour of Caribbean. Michael Clarke will miss the One-Day leg of the tour due to a hamstring injury, which
he sustained during the recently concluded triangular CB series, which kept him out of the tri-series for the major part of the event.
The Australians are also sweating on an emerging pace bowler, James Pattinson’s fitness, as he is also battling a buttock strain he had sustained during the second final of the CB series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758, last week.
However, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Watson-c96326 – who has recently recovered from a hamstring injury, which kept him out of action for almost three months – hoped his side will overcome the setbacks.
"We are always confident," said the 30-year-old http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Queensland-c834 all-rounder. "We know that if we are at the top of our game, we are going to be very hard to beat.
Meanwhile the West Indies all-rounder, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/KA-Pollard-c1754 has said that they will try their best against the formidable Australian side.
"http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 are a very competitive team, so they will be looking to come at us hard," said Pollard. "But we just have to take on board all of the preparation that has been put in place for us and it into the series and try to do our best," he added.
The opening One-Day of the five-ODI series will be played at the Arnos Vale Cricket Ground, St. Vincent, on March 16, 2012.
