Shane Watson keen to avenge Ashes defeats – Cricket News Update
Australian vice-captain, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/SR-Watson-c2558, believes that regaining the urn in the upcoming Ashes against England is a must for the Kangaroos if they are to move towards becoming the world's best side once again.
Currently preparing for a short ODI series against the Poms, it is the English media, which for now has given the Aussie players little time to settle in, already engaging in some Ashes mind games.
To their surprise however, the touring contingent had little to hide, opening their feelings to greater length and expressing their aim to reclaim the coveted trophy which has eluded them over the past three years.
The last time the side was in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013, 2009, they suffered a 2-1 slate before their Ashes debacles resurfaced at home where they went onto lose 3-1. Some of the defeats had left them shell-shocked and nothing has been same since then.
Australians had a major revamp, in domestic as well as in their International structure with relatively unknown players coming to the foil. However, with the wealth of inexperience in the current Australian squad, coming up against the present English lineup is in itself a daunting task.
Despite such concerns, as admitted by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Watson-c96326 himself, the player was adamant the hard work put in by the team over the past year or so has been commendable, and the only way to ensure success (Ashes) is by performing on the field.
"Until you can get into the Ashes and perform the way we need to perform those memories are going to be in the back of your mind," Watson said. "Everything we are doing is to try to improve every single time we train and play. Hopefully that will continue our development and improvement leading into the Ashes and we will have some happier memories than the previous couple of series.”
"But there is no doubt we have to improve in a big way from the past Ashes series. We are working hard on the areas that we were deficient at,” added Watson.
For now, the team and its relatively young guns including http://www.senore.com/Cricket/George-Bailey-c1480 will have a perfect chance to get familiar to the English conditions when they begin the tour with a practice match today at Leicester.
