Shane http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Watson-c96326 keen to be part of an Ashes victory – Cricket News Update
With a 5-match ODI series against England due to begin on June 29 at Lord’s in London, the Australian team’s thoughts have turned instinctively to the Ashes, with all-rounder http://www.senore.com/Cricket/SR-Watson-c2558 expressing his keen desire to be part of a successful campaign to
regain the urn.
“After being involved in two Ashes losses now, it is a burning desire inside me to be a part of a successful Ashes series,” Watson said.
Considered one of the oldest rivalries in the sport, the possession of the Ashes has always been a point of pride between http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746. However, the last two series, played in England during 2005 and 2009, resulted in losses for the Aussies, and
were followed by another humiliating defeat on home soil in the 2011 edition.
The most recent defeat eventually saw the Aussies losing their top spot on the ICC’s Test team rankings to England, although they have managed to work their way back up the table to number 3.
“... It is the ultimate rivalry and the ultimate challenge for an Australian cricketer, to play against England and win,” Watson said in reference to the Ashes.
“I haven't been a part of that in Test matches and now is a time to be able to put some things in place so we can have some success when we come back here during the Ashes ... We can learn about the cricket we need to play to beat the English over here,”
he added.
Australia are currently on a limited-overs tour of England – the first bilateral series the two teams are playing following the last Ashes campaign. The ODI event has largely been touted, by both players and the media, as preparation for the upcoming Ashes
in 2013, scheduled to be held in England.
However, skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MJ-Clarke-c1978 warned his side earlier to focus on the current series, despite the temptation to obsess over the Ashes, pointing out that the players needed to perform in the first place in order to earn a spot on the squad for the mega
event, which is scheduled to be held in June next year.
