Australian vice-captain, Shane Watson, had plenty of praise for his team’s bowling unit for the performance exhibited by them in first Test match against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758, played at the Galle International Stadium.
A resurging Aussie side was able to subdue the Lankans at home by 125 runs, and as a result have taken a lead of one game to nil in the three-match Test series. It was a slow turning wicket and Kangaroos'
skipper, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MJ-Clarke-c1978, decided to bat first, in order to allow the batsmen to reap the most out of the pitch before it deteriorates.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Watson-c96326 is of the view that the outcome would have remained the same, had the Aussies lost the toss and were forced to bowl first, as Australian pacers bowled nippy line and length throughout the game.
The all-rounder, who was thrilled with the win, said, “To be able to win a Test match in Sri Lanka is a really good effort. I know batting first helped the cause but we did bowl very well as a group throughout
the whole Test match and in the end I don't think it would have mattered that much whether we batted or bowled first.”
Watson, who claimed five victims in the match, said that Australian bowlers were like one unit and this performance of theirs was one of the best that they have put up for some time.
The wicket at Galle International Stadium was much suited to spin bowlers but despite the odds stacking against them, Aussie pacers notched 13 wickets. The 30-year-old all-rounder holds firm that this is
a sign of things to come and the pacers will play a big part in upcoming matches.
Watson said, “We did get the best of the conditions batting first, but for our quicks to have an impact, especially in the second innings provides some confidence to us fast bowlers that will play a big
part in the next two Tests.”
The all-rounder however, has advised his countries batsmen to concentrate on their batting and capitalise on the starts. Watson, acknowledging Michael Hussey’s batting in the first Test, said that others
should follow his lead and score big.
The second Test match of the series will begin from Thursday, September 8, and will be played at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium.
