The prolific Australian all-rounder, Shane http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Watson-c96326, is a doubtful starter for next month’s home series against New Zealand due to an ongoing hamstring injury.
The 30-year-old http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Queensland-c834 all-rounder told the media reporters on Sunday that the hamstring problem might force him to sit out of the first Test of the two-match series against New Zealand, commencing on December 1, in Brisbane. He said that even if he
gets picked for the Brisbane Test, his role would be a top order batsman only and not a right-arm medium pacer.
"Most probably bowling will be out in Brisbane, but we will just have to wait and see,” said Watson while talking to the media reporters ahead of day four of the ongoing second Test against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757.
The Queenslander had sustained a hamstring injury while bowling on the day of the second and the last Test of two-match series underway at New Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg.
The all-rounder said that he was trying to find a balance between his batting and bowling to get through the ongoing second Test and keep his chances of playing in the Brisbane Test alive.
Watson, the right-arm medium pacer, told the reporters that he will undergo a scan on his torn hamstring after the Johannesburg Test and hoped there won’t be something serious.
“I am going to get a scan done after this test to see what extent but hopefully it wont be a real significant one that won’t put me out for a little while,” said the Australian. “When I've done hamstrings in the past it’s taken a little bit of time to build
up my work before I can begin bowling again, so hopefully it won’t be too long," he added further.
Shane Watson has so far played 31 Test for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 scoring 2047 runs at an average of 37.90 and has 55 wickets in his name at a bowling average of 28.29.
Australia is currently in South Africa, and after a drawn two-match T20 series and a triumphant ODI competition, they are trailing the hosts 1-0 in the two-match Test series.
After completing the South Africa tour on November 21, the Aussies would head back home to host New Zealand in a two-match Test series.
