Primarily looked upon as a devastating opener, Australian vice-captain, Shane Watson has set his sight on making the most of his all-round abilities when his side takes on http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 in the upcoming ODI series.
Going West with an inexperienced lot, the Australian seniors are well aware of the added weight of responsibilities, which culminates in an Ashes series in 2013.
While skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Duke-c54717 ball, used in England, their premier all-rounder aims to contribute equally with both bat and ball.
In a career riddled with injuries, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Watson-c96326 has struggled a lot, and only last season he ran into concerns over the work-load his body was able to handle. However, given the swing-friendly conditions in England, Watson believes he can manage the workload, especially since he has evolved as a bowler over the years.
"My first few tours I didn't enjoy it because I didn't know how to get the best out of myself as a bowler and that's about your development as a cricketer really - adapting to the conditions that are presented," Watson said.
The resurgence in Watson’s bowling has mainly come under Clarke’s tenure, where he has become an active member. In eight Test matches, spread against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760, the player has taken a total of 16 wickets at an impressive average of 22. However, his batting form has dipped in that period, averaging a mediocre 25.
Similarly, in the one-day arena, Watson has taken 20 scalps in 17 matches at 25.10, while his batting average has shown a decline – 30.58 as compared with his career, which stands at 41.65.
However, with the Duke Ball expected offer more swing and movement when weighed against the kookoburra, the all-rounder is sure to add potency to a relative young bowling lineup.
"There's no doubt the Duke ball can really help your swing bowling out here. That's when I finally discovered the better way to bowl here rather than trying to bowl 100 miles an hour, gun-barrel straight.I really enjoy that over here, but on the flipside that's a challenge as a batsman, know bowlers do have the best success here by swinging the ball," he added.
