Shane Watson loses all hope for the Ashes
Australia’s only consistent player in this year’s Ashes, Shane Watson believes that there isn’t any possibility of saving the Ashes against their arch nemesis England after a dejected performance by the hosts on the third day of the fourth Test.
The Australian opener said,
“Obviously we’ll do all we can to restore pride and try and draw the series, but in the end the most important thing is winning that little urn, and we haven’t been able to do it.”
At the end of day three of the fourth Test, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Watson-c96326 while talking to the media said that his side is clearly struggling at the moment and has been dumb footed by the visitors in the Ashes. Watson was clearly dismayed by Australia’s batting disaster in the first and the second innings. The hosts managed to make just 98 runs in the first innings before crumbling in front of the might of the English. England then posted a huge total of 513 runs. This total was always going to be difficult for the Australians to surpass but still Watson tried to give his best and managed to score 54 runs off 102 balls, before getting adjudged Leg-before wicket (LBW) on a delivery by Tim Brenan. So far Watson is still the highest scorer in the second innings with teammate Brad Haddin on 45 not out.
Watson felt that the team is at its lowest morale level at the moment and many players are devastated by the outcome of this year’s Ashes. The best the Australian can do now is to level the series by winning the fifth Test but England will still retain the Ashes now. Watson said that the team knew how important this series was for them which added the pressure on each and every player. He expressed,
“Going into this series we knew how important it was going to be to win because Australia hasn’t lost the Ashes in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 for 24 years. So we knew if we didn’t win the Ashes it was going to be very disappointing for us personally to be involved in that type of history.”
The Aussie skipper Ricky Ponting has been facing immense pressure and criticism for poor form and captaincy in the series. A loss in this series may cost him his Test cap for once and for all. It is already being suggested that Ponting may not be playing in the fifth and final match of the Ashes in Sydney, owing to a finger injury which he sustained in the third match.
