http://www.senore.com/Cricket/SR-Watson-c2558 not guaranteed a place in the Test team – Cricket News Update
Australia’s captain, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MJ-Clarke-c1978, has made it clear that Shane Watson is not guaranteed for a place in the Test team, following the all-rounder’s decision to play only as a batsman in international cricket.
Watson is considered to be one of the finest all-rounders of the modern era, having the ability to change the complexion of a game with both bat and ball. However, the cricketer from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Queensland-c834 has had a career full of injuries, which
have hampered his progress at the highest stage of the game.
The 31-year-old cricketer injured his calf during the Test series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 earlier in the season and missed the last Test as well as the limited-overs series against the Islanders. Watson has not decided to give up on bowling
in order to prolong his career in international cricket.
The hard hitting batsman has returned to the global stage during the 3rd One Day International (ODI) against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750.
Clarke admits that http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Watson-c96326 has been a brilliant performer for the Kangaroos over the years but he will have to consistently score runs to cement his place in the national team only as a batsman.
"I don't think anybody walks into the Australian cricket team. It's about performance, and the strength of Shane is that he's performed over a period of time, in all three forms of the game," http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Clarke-c51120 said.
The Aussie skipper further added that as an all-rounder, Watson could easily walk into the national team but said that the top-order batsman is going to face a stiff competition now, with a number of budding batsmen coming through the
ranks of domestic cricket in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746.
He added, "As I've said to Watto, while he's not bowling he goes into a much bigger pool of players. The pool of batsmen is much bigger than the pool of all-rounders in Australian cricket at the moment. But Shane knows if he's at his
best, he's as good as any player in the world, let alone in the Australian team."
